Bibliography & History

Religious Naturalism has a long history, beginning most clearly with the philosopher Spinoza (1676) but with roots probably going back to very early humankind. A recent book by theologian Jerome Stone provides definitive history, though there is a brief history at Wikipedia . Much of that history and the associated philosophy are recorded in excellent books, which we have organized at LibraryThing.com (see complete bibliography there). We are continually reorganizing as more books are being written.

Depending on whether you want to read about Religious Naturalism from an academic and/or philosophical viewpoint, a popular viewpoint, or a more general viewpoint, you will find something in our collection of books and in the bookstore it points to. By reading some of these books, you will be up to speed on details of Religious Naturalism which cannot adequately be captured in a website, though we have certainly tried (especially in our Big Tent Perspectives page) to give you an adequate introduction.

Our complete library on Religious Naturalism can be found at our Bibliography site. This site is dynamic in that it changes over time as new books and papers are published and older items become out-of-date. Check back from time to time for changes. You can also find the Top Ten Books in our on site Book Store. Please buy them here as we receive a modest pay back from Amazon.

There is also considerable literature about RN in in the journal Zygon.
